New Project - Village Life

Dumped Kettle
This year I have decided to do a documentary project focusing on Village Life.
This came about as my Grandfather has lots of pictures taken in the early 1900's with some images of my village (he used to drink at the local pub) so there is already some grounds for comparison on how it used to be compared to the present day.
More than that though I have always found it hard to take pictures of the village I live in, as it is so familiar to me, nothing looks new or interesting, so I thought it would be a good photo challenge.
When I started to analyse what is in the village and what to cover I was amazed at the opportunity on my doorstep.
Today for example, I was walking the dog through some woods and found this old kettle, dumped next to the fence with the village name on it, that was just today.
Some of the things I intend to cover is the various sports and activities that frequently go on and hopefully some of the parish meetings. The carnival that happens each year with the election of the carnival queen, building of floats, demonstrations and the rest. The pubs and their regulars as well as the people that frequent the village, all in all, a lot to cover so it will take me the best part of the year.
Some ways to cover this is to show detailed close up images that people walk past daily, landscapes, wildlife and plant life that is unique to the village and so on, so the scope is enormous when you get down to it.

These two were photographed after an action in Leeds. They seemed to be very intreted in us.
I have not updated this page for some time as it apeares that the heat is on, for some reason there are suspiciouse dudes hanging on the corners.. As this is in public domain, they can use this against me and my freinds.
however I say stuff them and turn it in on them, lets take pictures of them taking pictures of us!

Rain, rain, rain and more rain

Well, since I brought my Nikon D70, it has done nothing, except, sit on my desk, cos' of the rain. Ok I could have taken it outside and done something different, creative or unique, but I have been so paranoid about getting it wet that it has hampered myself from doing what I want. All I want to do is see how well it renders colours outdoors, the light coming in through my windows in the house gives a somewhat dingy, lifeless look to any indoor pictures, that just dosen't inspire me.
With all this said, I am definitely out at the weekend, come rain or shine. I have also located a couple of not so shy squirrels to photograph next week with my new lens that I have on order a Nikkor 70-300 mm ED which in 35mm terms would be 105-450 mm ideal for a bit of wildlife.
